Battle System

Sora does not use a keyblade in this game. He uses cards of different keyblades displayed on them to use them. If you want to use Fire, you must scroll through your hand (displayed during battle also, which you can scroll through to pick a card) and find the Fire card, and use it. The cards in this game also have numbers on them. This number on the card is sometimes difficult to understand. Here’s the easiest way to put it: Each card has a number from 0-9 on it This is called it’s card value.. Each number is superior to a certain number, so it can ‘Card Break’ the inferior card and stop it from being used. For example, say your enemy (a heartless) is using an attack card with the number 5. If you use any card with the number 6 or higher, it will stop his attack and let you use your card.This instance is called a ‘Card Break’. But, enemies can do it to you, too, so be careful.

Also, cards with the number 0 can break any and all cards, but can be broken by any card, for example, an enemy heartless uses a number 9 attack card. Those are impossible to break unless you use a 0 card, since 0 cards can ‘Card Break’ any card. So you use a 0 card, say a 0 card that summons Cloud. The heartless’s attack would be stopped, and Cloud would be summoned. However, 0 cards are like a double-edged sword. They can break anything, but can be broken by anything. So the enemy heartless could easily bring Cloud’s onslaught to a halt by using a 1 card or any other card. There are also instances called a ‘Card Combo’. By holding R as you select cards, you can queue up a ‘Card Combo’, using three cards at the same time, all at once. The card numbers also add up, making it impossible for an enemy to break it without a responding combo with higher collective card numbers. Example: You have three number 9 cards, all of the Kingdom Key.

You can use these in a card combo,which will result in three Kingdom Key attacks. But the cards are merged in a combo, so since all three of them have the card value of 9, this is added together, so the total card value of your card combo is 27. Don’t forget, though, a 0 card can break this with ease. Funny card system, huh?

Another one of the few battle system traits are ’sleights’. Sleights are special attacks you can use once you have learned them, that are executed through certain cards being used in a combo card. For example, say you have the Sleight ability ‘Slide Dash’ learned (this is the first sleight you learn, should you choose to learn sleights). To use Slide Dash, you must use three attack cards of the same trait. In other words, three Kingdom Keys, or three of any other keyblade, but not a combination like two Kingdom Keys and one Jungle King. Using 3 Kingdom Keys or any 3 other keys at once in a card combo will result in you using the sleight, ‘Slide Dash’. When you level up, you can choose to raise your Strength, AP, or learn a sleight (sometimes).

This is the base for learning a sleight.

Your AP amount determines how many cards you can have in your deck (maximum 99), but the most you will ever reach is probably around 55-60.
